After a weekend of Fay Rain, today is looking like a blue sky day. Of course this worries me a little because Fay may be in Atlanta this weekend which would be a bummer. But the good news here is that I can get the bike out this afternoon and go ride. Yay.

My dad will probably be riding in the MS 150 this year again in Texas, and my brother-in-law just emailed to see if I had considered riding in it. (I hadn’t) Getting to see family though is big incentive for getting myself on the cycle, so I going to give it a shot I think and start traininig for it. Now I just need to find someone to yell at me to get up and go, Go, GO.

Other than that the weather and the potential MS 150 this Spring, I’ve got about a million to-do’s to make sure things are ready for the trip this weekend.

It’s nearly here, the big drive up to Atlanta. This year will be pretty cool, because youngest brother, Nate will be coming along as well as Mary, Morgan, & Savio. Our hotel room will be full. We’ll also have to unfortunately walk aways, since we didn’t get manage to get a hotel very close to the Con.

I’m excited to say that this year’s Con will feature a lot of the Firefly actors. I’ll also have two costumes this year, my 76th Browncoat Uniform and a Steampunk look. Mary has a Kaylee costume (including parasol). Nathan will have both a Dr. Horrible costume and a Captain Hammer costume, so fun. There will of course be pics coming in the near future.

I’ve included a few pics below of the painting I’m submitting for the whedonverse art show. It’s painted on glass and involved airbrushing (very fun).

Step 1. a blank canvas

Step 2: I want it painted black.

Step 3: I add some stars.

Step 4: I add some color.

painted the back of the glass.

Step 5: On the next pane of glass I paint the back of it to create the shape of the ship and add some burst of color from the engine.

Step 6: I paint the ship to create dimension, etc. I also add more stars.

Step 7: The final painting.

Yesterday, I watched the Olympics and saw perhaps the greates swimming relay race. The Men’s 4X100 was awesome. It was easily the most exciting thing I saw last night during the coverage. And here’s hoping that Michael Phelps breaks Mark Spitz’s record.

As I get older, I find it hard to get as excited about the Olympics as I did when I was kid. I remember watching them as a kid and being told about how these were amateur atheletes simply competing to be the best, but then the gold of the games slowly became tarnished as drug controversies and professionals took over the event. I remember being horribly saddened when the US sent the first Dream Team to an Olympic Games. It took a few years before I was ok with the fact that really most of these athletes are professionals. Great Olympic moments are still great Olympic moments and last nights relay was one of those moments.

The link above takes you to the video of the event.

I just watched this anti-Obama ad

Basically, I saw it and laughed, but then I wound up reading this interesting analysis fo what the add is most likely intended for. I find it very interesting that McCain’s new ad strategy seems to say yeah Obama’s really great, the best thing since slice bread, but isn’t that annoying of Obama.

I’m also thinking of the recent add that called Obama a celebrity, comparing him to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. To me it seems like a strange strategy for someone to pull. Essentially, it seems McCain is monopolizing on the same fears in both adds, but just neatly twisting the rhetoric in each ad to best influence the anti-christ – is – coming – tomorrow, religious crowd and the britney spears and paris hilton are the anti-christ secular crowd. I think in both cases though this might well backfire. I mean a lot of folks are already kind of pissed at the stupid Obama’s a celebrity ad.

For DragonCon this year I’m attempting to create a Steampunk costume this year. The idea of the costume is to create a ghost hunter costume. Basically, I want the costume to combine the Victorian fascination with spiritualists and the steampunk fascination with a Vernian future. For those of you who are curious about what steampunk is I’d suggest checking out this blog, brass goggles. I promise to publish pics as things get created.
